These are maps of annual accumulated snow-free freezing potential (freezing degree days, FDD) for the Upper Gunnison domain, derived from daily minimum temperature maps interpolated from weather station and microclimate sensor data combined with Landsat-derived estimates of the timing of seasonal snowpack departure and onset. The original daily maps are also available.<br /><br />Snow-free freezing degree-days were accumulated in the 60 days after the dissapearance of seasonal snowpack. In the absence of snow, the accumulation period started on day-of-year 60 (March 1st in a non-leap year). To compute freezing degree days, daily estimates of temperatures below -5 degrees Celcius (considered harmful to most plants) were summed across all days estimated to be free of snow cover and multiplied by negative 1.
