These data were collected from a full-factorial warming and dominant species removal experiment established in 2013 near the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Gothic, Colorado. In montane meadows at two elevations, we passively warmed plots using hexagonal open-top chambers (OTCs), and we clipped the dominant species (Wyethia x magna at low elevation; Juncus drummondii at high elevation) at ground-level throughout the growing season. We measured soil temperature and moisture every 15 minutes from January 2024 to September 2024 using TOMST TMS-4 probes, and aboveground plant biomass and soils were sampled in July 2024. We non-destructively assessed peak growing season total and subdominant aboveground plant biomass using allometric equations, total soil carbon and nitrogen by elemental analysis, potential soil carbon and nitrogen mineralization using a lab incubation, and soil organic carbon pools by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. For FTIR analysis, we integrated and calculated relative peak areas that reflect to simple plant-derived, complex plant-derived, and microbial-derived organic matter.
