Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — The short life of upvalley wind in a high-altitude valley in the Colorado Rocky Mountains (2025), Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres. Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. Operate thermodynamic profiler
Deploy Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI) at Gothic to retrieve temperature and water vapor profiles every 5 minutes using optimal estimation physical retrieval TROPoe method. Process profiles with 55 vertical levels from surface to 17 km with 10 m spacing near surface increasing with height. Average retrieved profiles over 10 minute intervals before analysis.
Quantities: 1 AERI instrument, profiles every 5 minutes, 55 vertical levels, 10 minute averaging intervalsDuration: Continuous operation during study periodConditions: All weather conditions, temperature and humidity retrieval requires climatological priors
Equipment: Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI)

Typical Equipment

• Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI)

Output Measurements

• temperature profiles
• water vapor mixing ratio profiles
• convective boundary layer depth
