PRISM climate data

Knowledge graph centered on PRISM climate data with 72 nodes and 140 connections. Top connected: Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, Gothic, Forest responses to increasing aridity and warmth , Engelmann Spruce, climatological variability.

Method synopsis

Extraction of environmental variables from spatial data platform using zonal functions to calculate average climate values within tree polygon boundaries. Integrates snowpack, temperature, and topographic moisture data.

Synthesized from method descriptions across 6 papers using this protocol.

Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — Decomposing an elevational gradient in predation by insectivorous birds (2024), Ecosphere. Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. Collect climate data
Use PRISM (Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model) Climate Group Model to interpolate average daily temperature and total precipitation at each site for August 2020 when study was conducted
Quantities: Temperature and precipitation data for all 20 study sitesDuration: Climate data for August 2020 study periodConditions: Daily temperature ranged from 16.6 to 13.3°C, precipitation ranged from 14.5 to 47.938 mm
   Equipment: PRISM climate database

Typical Equipment

• RMBL Spatial Data Platform
• QGIS
• zonal functions

Output Measurements

• snowpack duration
• freezing degree days
• topographic wetness
