Method synopsis

Used Community Land Model to simulate evapotranspiration components at high spatiotemporal resolution over a mountainous watershed with detailed soil layering and vegetation parameterization. Model separately calculates soil evaporation, canopy evaporation, and transpiration based on mass and energy balance equations.

Synthesized from method descriptions across 7 papers using this protocol.

Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — A deep learning hybrid predictive modeling (HPM) approach for estimating evapotranspiration and ecosystem respiration (2021), Hydrology and Earth Systems Science. Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. CLM model simulation setup
Developed one-dimensional vertical Community Land Model (CLM) at SNOTEL stations ER-BT, ER-SP, and ER-PK using site-specific meteorological forcing data. Model provided physically-based estimates of ET and soil temperature for mechanistic HPM training when flux tower measurements were unavailable.
Quantities: 3 CLM model instances, 1-dimensional vertical configurationDuration: Simulations covered full data period 1995-2017Conditions: Site-specific meteorological forcing including temperature, precipitation, and radiation inputs
Equipment: Community Land Model (CLM), DAYMET meteorological dataset
