Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — Is the propensity to emit alarm calls associated with health status? (2020), Current Zoology. Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. Fecal sample collection and parasite analysis
Fecal samples were collected from marmots during subsequent handling and stored in formalin. Samples were analyzed within 6 months using fecal floats with Ova FloatTM Zn 118 sulfate solution and wet slides for presence of Ascaris (nematode), Eimeria (coccidian), and Entamoeba (protozoan).
Quantities: 745 fecal samples from 255 individualsDuration: Analyzed within 6 months of collectionConditions: Stored in formalin until analysis
Equipment: formalin, Ova FloatTM Zn 118 sulfate solution, microscope

Typical Equipment

• formalin
• Ova FloatTM Zn 118
• wet slides
• microscope

Output Measurements

• Ascaris presence
• Eimeria presence
