Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — Inferring Regional-Scale Species Diversity from Small-Plot Censuses (2015), PLOS ONE. Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. Establish census plots
Established 12 plots each of area 0.04 ha distributed over the 6000 ha San Lorenzo Protected Area forest reserve in Panama
Quantities: 12 plots, 0.04 ha each, distributed over 6000 ha reserveDuration: Not specifiedConditions: Tropical forest habitat within protected area
   Equipment: plot markers
2. Conduct arthropod census
Detected arthropod species using wide range of collection methods including sampling from soil to forest canopy across taxonomic breadth of Arthropoda
Quantities: 6144 arthropod species among 129,494 individuals detected across 12 plots, 163 tree species among 1,556 individuals with >10mm dbhDuration: Not specifiedConditions: Tropical forest from soil to canopy
Equipment: various collection methods not specified
