Method synopsis

Calculation of reproductive synchrony using Augspurger's Index which quantifies the overlap of activity duration for each individual relative to the population, producing values from 0 to 1.

Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — Phenological drivers and consequences for solitary bees (2024). Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. Calculate phenological metrics
Nesting activity onset was defined as the nest start date (day of year). Duration was calculated by subtracting nest end date from nest start date. Synchrony was calculated using Augspurger's Index of synchrony, which quantifies the overlap of nesting activity duration for each cavity relative to the rest of the population, ranging from 0 to 1 with 1 indicating perfect synchrony.
Quantities: Calculated for each individual cavityDuration: Post-processing of collected dataConditions: Data analysis phase
Equipment: R statistical software, AugspurgerIndex package
