Method synopsis

Statistical analysis using Moran's I to detect spatial patterns in allele frequencies across distance classes. Calculates correlation coefficients for genetic similarity as a function of geographic distance.

Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — Spatial genetic heterogeneity in a population of the montane perennial plant Delphinium nelsonii (1987), Heredity. Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. Analyze spatial autocorrelation
Calculated Moran's I correlation coefficient for allele frequencies using distance intervals of 20m. Used Fortran program SAAP, with distance boundaries of 0-20m, 21-40m, up to 141-160m
Quantities: 40 separate I values (8 distance intervals × 5 loci), distance boundaries 0-20m, 21-40m, continuing to 141-160mDuration: Not specifiedConditions: Computer analysis
   Equipment: Fortran program SAAP

Typical Equipment

• Fortran program SAAP

Output Measurements

• Moran's I values
• spatial correlation coefficients
• distance-decay relationships
