ABSTRACT The Precambrican rocks from the Almont area, Gunnison county, Colorado, previously studied by petrography and whole rock analysis were now analyzed in the content of 12 trace elements. The results make possible to conclude that there are two differentiation series, the metaigneous rocks following a tholeiitic trend and the unmetamorphozed igneous rocks with a calcalkaline trend. With the available data the hypothesis that best explains the origin of the igneous rocks, is the partial melting of quartz eclogite in an orogenic environment thus producing the tonalitic rocks. while the total melting could produce the quartz-gabro rocks. The metaigneous rocks belong to an earlier igneous event in a non-orogenic environment.
