Method synopsis

Stage-mass-structured IPMs incorporating seasonal demographic transitions and environmental stochasticity for population viability analysis. Uses prospective perturbation analysis and stochastic projections to assess extinction risk under environmental change scenarios.

Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation

Steps below were extracted from the most recent peer-reviewed implementation of this protocol in the corpus — Emergent social structure is typically not associated with survival in a facultatively social mammal (2023), Biology Letters. The protocol was originally introduced by Can individual variation in phenotypic plasticity enhance population viability? (2017), Ecological Modeling. Implementations in other papers (listed below) may differ.

1. Fit generalized linear mixed models
Fitted two generalized linear mixed models (summer and winter) with binomial distribution and a logit link function with 20,000 iterations each. Models included the six network measures, group size, age, sex, June mass, valley location and predation index as fixed effects. Individual ID and year were included as random effects to account for annual environmental and demographic differences and individuals observed over multiple years.
Quantities: 2 separate models (summer and winter) with 20,000 iterations each, 559 observations totalDuration: Statistical modeling phase of analysisConditions: All continuous variables were standardized (mean-centered and divided by 2 s.d.)
Equipment: statistical software for generalized linear mixed models
