1. Soil collection across elevational gradient
   Collected soils from within 10m of transects traversing Washington Gulch (403), Gothic Mountain, and Baldy Mountain trails at 3200-3500m elevation for current range, and 3500-3800m for beyond range soils. At current range, collected from 10cm radius, 15cm deep core centered over nearest legume to depth of 15cm past rooting depth. For beyond range soils, sampled at least three sites per transect after verifying no legumes present at those elevations.

2. Seed collection and processing
   Collected mature seeds from same transects as soil collection. Selected haphazardly from mature fruits (pods) within 10m of same transects. One to six pods collected per maternal plant, each pod contained one to three seeds. Cold stratified at 4°C for 45 days, then surface sterilized for 20min in bleach solution, rinsed in four subsequent sterile water baths.
