1. Establish experimental blocks
   Placed experimental blocks over continuous L. vulgaris patches. Each block contained two 3m × 3m plots spaced 3 meters apart. Blocks were placed at least 10 meters away from other blocks. Block density was 0.37 P. strictus individuals per m² to resemble average field site density of 0.36 individuals per m².
