Method synopsis
Standard colorimetric method for measuring soluble reactive phosphorus and total dissolved phosphorus in water samples using spectrophotometry. Total dissolved phosphorus samples are first digested with K2S2O8 in a pressure cooker.
Synthesized from method descriptions across 7 papers using this protocol.
Procedure from a recent peer-reviewed implementation
Phosphorus was measured using 20 mL filtered water samples collected in glass test tubes. Samples were analyzed as quickly as possible (immediately or the next day) to prevent sample degradation. Total dissolved phosphorus samples were digested with 0.2 g K2S2O8 in a pressure cooker to oxidize all reactive P to PO43-. Both SRP and TDP were measured following a standard colorimetric method using a Thermo Scientific GENESYS 10S UV-VIS Spectrophotometer.
